Slate Creek Our NameSlate Creek is a pristine cold-water mountain trout stream. By all measures it is a challenging stream to fish. Steep, rocky bluffs make access difficult. Overhanging trees and thick brush demand precise casting and frequently put a dent in one’s supply of flies. Swift water, slick rocks and large boulders can make passage treacherous, but at the same time create riffles and deep pools where fish can be found. Slate Creek is not known as a world-class fishery, but it is here where we learned to fly fish. As a matter of fact, our fathers and grandfathers began fishing this stream nearly a century ago when the only access was by horseback or foot. Many of us began fly fishing with primitive equipment: willow sticks, telescoping iron rods, old bamboo poles, glass rods, and inexpensive graphite rods. Through the years, our equipment improved. So, when we decided to start a company it was our goal to build the finest rods; rods that we would be proud to own. When it came time to name our company, the choice was obvious. For us, Slate Creek represents five generations of fly fishing, and it is here we continue to return. Three brothers and their four sons; Slate Creek is tradition for us. We are Slate Creek.
