Our latest offering is our Two-Handed fly rods. Spey casting (two-handed) techniques enable you to cast long distances over large bodies of water with minimal effort, easing the strain on your arms and shoulders over a long day of fishing. Spey casting is not an overhead cast so it eliminates the problem of overhanging trees and brush along some rivers and salt water flats.

Spey Rods

We offer two ultra-fast action, Sage TCX-based rods for the more skilled caster facing challenging conditions. These are perfect for heavy lines, shooting heads, and big flies in windy, big water conditions.

Eight fast action rods built on Sage Z-Axis blanks give more control over presentation with the wanted distance these rods were made to give the caster.

Whether fishing for large trout, steelhead or salmon in the North American Pacific coast rivers, fishing for large trout and salmon in the rivers along the North American Atlantic coast and in Europe, or fishing in salt flats or surf all over the world, we have a rod for you.

These are big rods for big fish all over the world.

Switch Rods

Longer than a standard 9 foot single-handed rod, but shorter than Spey Rods (12 foot 6 inches or longer), at 11 feet our Switch Rods are very versatile.

An excellent all-around fly rod, a Switch Rod can be used single-handed for overhead casting or two-handed using Spey casting techniques. You'll have more control of your mends, drift and presentation because of the longer length of the rod.

Use an overhead cast when fishing smaller rivers, streams and ocean surf. Then switch to a Spey cast on larger rivers or where overhanging trees are a problem.

Application for Switch rods stretches both far and wide. Switch Rods allow anglers to pursue a variety of fisheries, as well as fishing methodologies, with a single tool. Examples include:

  • Small stream steelheading
  • Beach overhead casting
  • Single hand nymph fishing for both trout and steelhead
  • Small rod Spey casting for steelhead, sea run brown, sea run dollies, silvers and chums

If you can only purchase one fly rod this may be your best choice.

All in all the Switch rod concept allows for a single tool for multiple tasks. Versatility is at a premium, particularly for the angler looking for the dual mode function of both overhead as well as a Spey tool. Spey rod enthusiasts should view these rods as a small Spey rod approach. Single-hand casters can view these as transitional, bridging single hand casting to Spey techniques.
